Turnigy / Frsky

The Turnigy 9x radio has become famous for it's low price yet impressive quality and features, and the ability to customise it, including it's firmware. In fact, it is quite hard to get your hands on one at the moment as the supply can't keep up with demand.
Although quite usable stock, most prefer to add the FrSky module or the DHT-U as it adds failsafe, antenna diversity and telemetry for about $60. It also offers a better range of Rx, most priced around $25. FrSky's ACCST frequency hopping spread spectrum has been proven bulletproof in even giant scale models and is as good or better than any of the latest high end systems.
There are many DIY projects with this system and more information can be found at 9xforums.com.

This video shows a ground range test, from a car and through trees out to nearly 2km (over a mile)with no loss of signal. The system offers +1.5 km range out of the box , 4.5 km range with the $10 upgraded patch antenna and has flown to over 10 km with 1 watt amplification.

Download the Turnigy 9x manual (stock) here. As there is no official manual for the Turnigy 9x, This is the manual for the Imax 9x on which it is based. The functions on both are identical.

Latest Releases:

FrSky telemetry DHT-U
The Frsky DHT-U is an all-in-one universal telemetry module for module-based radios. It has a built-in DHT Tx module and telemetry display which can be clamped to the transmitter handle. Real time in-flight data such as Rx voltage and signal strength can be shown by default. With the addition of sensors and the telemetry hub, data such as Battery voltage, cell voltage, temperature, nitro fuel levels, GPS data, speed, altitude, rpm and current draw can be viewed. One nice feature is the ability to set the fail-safe while in flight rather than estimating where the control surfaces should move to in case of signal loss - so for example you can steer the model into a gentle power off left-hand gliding turn, and 'set' this actual flight position as failsafe.

FrSky Sensor Hub

The FrSky sensor Hub serves as an onboard data collection point for various sensors. The data is then sent back to the Tx. It is much smaller than I had anticipated, and at 37x30x8mm it could fit in smaller models.
